Air-cooled

  • Air flows through the heat exchanger via the motion airstream or a fan.
  • Heat is released into the ambient air.
  • Optimised specific heat output per surface thanks to patented technology.
  • Heat exchangers placed in the front of the vehicle or in the wheel wells.
  • Simple and robust connection in the cooling circuit.

Liquid-cooled

  • A liquid flows through the heat exchanger in the secondary circuit (for example water / glycol).
  • Heat is transferred to the secondary circuit and the latter dissipates it.
  • High performance due to the thermal conductivity properties of the fluid.
  • Positioning not limited to the front of the vehicle.

Condensers

Whether air conditioning the interior or increasing the performance of the powertrain cooling: The condenser is an indispensable component in the cooling system.

It transfers the heat to the environment or to a secondary circuit – independent of the refrigerant used (e.g. R1234yf, R744). The physical state of the refrigerant changes from gaseous to liquid.

The rapidly increasing demand in the field of electric mobility and fuel cell propulsion makes more and more powerful thermal systems necessary. By cross-connecting the refrigerant circuit with the coolant circuit, an additional increase in performance is achieved. ➝ For details see Chillers.

Evaporators

For continuous cooling of the interior of a vehicle, a refrigerant must be evaporated in the evaporator. It is the counterpart to the condenser, which brings a refrigerant from a gaseous state into a liquid state.

The surface of the evaporator transfers the heat of the passenger compartment into the refrigerant circuit. This achieves a reduction in the interior temperature.

The radiator is an indispensable component in the cooling circuit of every vehicle – whether combustion engine, electric drive or hybrid.
